Snes9xGX 003 Released
This version fixes the many bugs people found with the previous release, and it improves ease of use. Notably, Snes9xGX now has a background, and the menus are fairly attractive .
Please see the readme for installation instructions, credits, and other information.
Features:
- Based on Snes9x 1.5 - superior ROM compatibility
- Auto Load/Save Freeze States and SRAM
- Custom controller configurations
- Wiimote, Nunchuk, Classic, and Gamecube controller support
- Autodetect PAL/NTSC
- Zip Support
- Open Source!
Code:
[What's New 003]
- added: alphabetical file sorting
- added: background logo/backdrop + nicer menus
- added: scrolling in ROM selector
- fixed: switching between pal/ntsc ROMS doesn't mess up timings
- fixed: GC controller config works now
- fixed: freeze autoloading on ROM load
- fixed: zipped ROMS should now load in a reasonable time
- fixed: precompiled dols for autosaving to various locations (see readme)
- changed: GC default quickload slot (to sd) (thanks kerframil)
- changed: default load/save dirs are now "/snes9x/roms" and
"/snes9x/saves/" (thanks kerframil)
- changed: Classic X and Y defaults aren't switched
- changed: if autosave is enabled, it doesn't ask to save SRAM
anymore. It is saved in the background.
- updated README

Awesome work, this looks to be on par with the older versions of SNESX9 in terms of features and usuability, thanks!

For me this has been far superior to the old versions. So glad for alphabetical sorting now too, that bugged me a little.
Is it really two different folders though, or is that a typo in the changelog? I assume they're both in the the snes9x folder?

Question, what is this "003-sd-wii" file?

Is there any chance you could put in an option for sharper scaling? A simple 2x scale instead of Bilinear or whatnot. And perhaps aspect correction for 16:9 TVs.
Right now, this emulator is so great that the only thing keeping me from tossing my Super Nintendo out the window is the fact that it looks sharper than this does.

Instead of creating new topics every time a new release is made, why not edit the first post?
Like create a new topic that deals with just your awesome SNES releases and edit it everytime a new release is made.
Many thanks for this awesome SNES emulator. It pwns everything else out there.
tehskeen has supplied me with an awesome SNES and Genesis Emulator.
Im still looking for a good NES emulator.
Has there been any NES emulators that have fast Wiimote loading? (Not having to press the 1 and 2 buttons on the wiimote when starting the app.)

what did you use to compress and convert the bmp's in gfx_bg.h and tempgfx.h? I've tried both bmp2gc and gfx2gcn, but I can't seem to get the same results.

Thanks for this. Open source is much appreciated. Nuts to LoPST.
One question though: Any plans to add external usb storage support? As you no doubt are aware, the support is already implemented thanks to svpe. IMHO all Homebrew apps which load files should have this. After all, it can be a pain in the butt to re-do my miniscule sd card depending on what HB app I am going to use, especially when I have a perfectly good usb drive with more than enough room on it.

I'm confused. Is this based on the r70 beta?

Nope, based on the Snes9x 1.5 port by softdev and crunchy2 (it was called snes9xgx 2.0)

well, its quite a long and boring process actually :P. I used gfx2gc (to get a ycbycr image). Then I run the zlib deflate to compress it, and bin2c to get the binary data into a header file. You could always just add libpng support - it shouldn't be hard at all - and then it would be very easy to change any images.

This emulator looks great indeed. I especially like the "Choose game" feature, that automatically unzips AND loads the game right after
One question though : is it normal that all the roms are forced to run in 50Hz mode ? I checked the emulator options for a solution and could not find any.
Thanks !

ahh, I was actually able to get similar results by using hex workshop and it's "Copy as C Source" option instead of bin2c. Thanks for answering my silly little questions though. Maybe we should setup a CVS repository for all this code.

I'm assuming that the naming method of the saves haven't been changed?
*sigh* I seem to be the only one that even supports using the filename... is there really a reason to NOT use it that I'm missing?

-Because of the way we have to map the controls we can't have L and R on the wii mote (meaning we cant play certain games)
The way to solve the is to use the button map that the other emulators used
Home and (+)= exit rom
(+)= R (+) and (-)= select
(-)=L Home= start
- Your c-stick zoom Is AWESOME
- Would it be possible to get some nice filters like we see on the computer?
- Cheat support?
- If we got those things I would be swiching to this emulator now
- I'm dreaming but imagine if we got net play or lan (This would like be the bullet in the hole to Nintendo as they don't have it) (Lan because we could use a program to play friends onver wifi *drools*... Or Imagene haveing a server like gamespy..... OOO VOIP would be awesome
I know I'm dreaming about the LAST request.... But Imagenation rules
**Thinks of playing Kirby superstar over WIFI with cousin**
Great work Keep it up

Its Good But....
This is a fine emulator one of my favs on the Wii and also when i was pimpin my cube(if that makes sense) but anyway all these requests for filters and the like just aint happening, this system simply does not have the hoarse power to do all of that.... As long as my Xbox lives and Snes is in 720p thats all i need... But i will continue to support these great projects thanx guys

I ran Super Metroid @ ~640x480 with Super Eagle on a Celeron 533MHz just fine... (though that may have been using frame-skip) But isn't the Wii easily over 100 times more powerful than a SNES (it's probably higher but that's not the point)? I'm pretty sure that's plenty for an emulator :P And if your really concerned about CPU, just use the lq2x scaler which seems to be one of the best quality filters for a decently light CPU load (or if you got quite some cpu to spare, go with hq2x)

I never saw the point of filter like eagle or 2xsai, I feel like it just hurts my eyes, bilinear or scanline are way better I think but maybe it's just a matter of taste
anyway, the purpose of filters are to improve the original console display on a CRT screen because TVS and Computer screens are way different when rendering display...
but here we got smooth interlaced display support and even support for original low-resolution modes, fully implemented in hardware, there is no need for software filters to improve rendering output (just look at the sourcecode of genplus/smsplus, adding support for original TV mode is easy and gives you a quite good nostalgic feeling)
btw, also see how snes9x 1.5 sometime slowdowns with games requiring heavy custom chip emulation (SuperFX 2, SA1,...), software filtering will just make the framerate drops even more
only my 2 cents

I liked the filters when I used to run the emulators on an original XBox in higher resolutions, but honestly I agree, there's probably not much of a need for it on the Wii in 480p.
Better aspect ratio handling on the other hand, is something that all of these emulators still need. In 16:9 mode, they shouldn't be stretched to the full size of the screen. The GBA one is the only one I've seen to do that.

Also, it would be nice to have the zoom and turbo options mapped to the right stick on the classic controller as well.

Switch your TV back to 4:3 and you will have correct aspect ratio.
Obviously, this could be done in software (detecting 16:9 in SYSCONFIG then downscaling the 640 pixels wide rendered display to compensate the 16:9 upscale) but it' easier to just switch your TV back to 4:3, it will do exactly the same and probably witch less artifacts.
