You put them in a folder called "roms" in a folder called "mame" on the root of your sd card.

You can't in this version. It picks a random selection each time the menu loads. I'm sure it will be made better eventually.

Did you place the zip files in "/mame/roms"?

Here is what I did, I downloaded the EMU unpacked it to the apps folder on my sd card which contains my HBC . I downloaded a rom from your list(134) and loaded it (zipped) to the mame folder. I also made a copy of the mame folder and added it to the root of my sd card. When I go to HBC and start the EMU I get no roms found message. What am I doing wrong????

Make a folder called "roms" inside the mame folder and put the zip file in there.

If you want that game to work then revert to Toad Kings 0.2 version of mame.

I don't have anything insightful to add, but I do wish to thank you, Toad King for all your hard work. The emulator works fantastically! This is something I've waited years for.

Thanks!

Works well for some games. The trick is put the zip files in the x:\mame\roms direcory. Don't unzip them.

I love playing the classics again. Does anyone remember the arcade game where the alien got out of his ship and took a piss during the demo sequence? I have been trying to remember the name of that game for years. It's like Guerilla or something like that. Thanks in advance.

Alright, I'm at a loss with how to operate this. Must be me though although a few suggestions.

  • Create a general guide/FAQ, for how to install, how to operate and other tabits of information that can help people. (I've seen bits and pieces, but something that encompasses everything would be nice)
  • Show what sites have the updated and most complete ROMS/BIos for what works. (This is the largest problem, I've been trying to get Battletoads to work for the past 5 hours, no dice)
  • Make interface more user friendly in next ver. (just personal preference since I have to point my wii-remote to select what little ROMs I got working)

But yeah getting the ROMs to get recognized is the largest issue IMO, is there a particualr site that keeps itself updated? (Or is that not allowed in this forum?)

But in all seriousness, I've Tried all the Gradius/Salamander games, and only Gradius III worked for me. (Even then I got stuck at the disclaimer screen)

1: Unzip to root of SD card or USB.
2: Get 0.134 roms.
2: Copy them still zipped to root:\mame\roms (root being your SD card or USB device.)
3: Run from HBC or whatever method your using.. I think maybe not in the apps folder if your using something else, not sure.
4: Pick a game from the list (it only shows 12 or a so I believe at the moment)
5: Load game
6: Play controls can be adjusted from the menu as well as video scaling options under "sliders".
7: Play game, have fun. :P

Not allowed, afaik.

I've been busy with real life stuff for the past week. However, I did get some work done in the emulator, fixing most of the serious bugs on my list (specifically stereo sound and having more than 15 games displayed in the ROM list) and adding Wiimote pointer support. I tried to start working on the GX renderer, but that kind of stalled since I have pretty much no experience with graphics programming at all, let alone GX.

I might make a release with what I have fixed next week.

Alright, zipped I didn't do but I'm not following the whole 0.134 roms. If anything because when I look them up, it just gives a a list of all these files and get things like '32x_scd.zip' or 'a5200.zip' to name a few. Or a torrent that's 26 GB large. (And it's been shut down to make it all moot)

I hope I'm not the only one who appreciates the irony of that.

Could I have hint, like a phrase to google? Since I'm just stumbling around blind, death and dumb. Hell my MacMAME revolted on a me a while back and refuses to play any sounds.

Predicting I get all this sorted out, let's jump ahead. If you want to play a game like Life Force, which needs Salamander to work. Is there a way yet for the current system to recognize they're together to be able to play it, or is that for a newer project?

Toad King,
Do you have any idea why a forwarder channel won't work with this program, but it's fine through the Homebrew Channel? That seems weird. I think I remembered that the HB passes in the "home directory" path, while forwarders don't - could this be it? I've tried creating a forwarder for this thing, but can't get it to go.

This is almost certainly the reason. Unfortunately, I don't really plan on fixing it at the moment. SDL MAME Wii depends on the starting directory to figure out if we're using the SD card or USB drive. This is really something the forwarder should take care of.

A nice GUI in time would be great (not essential though) - but thats ideal that you've sorted out the stereo sound and the emu's number of games displayed bugs (plus wiimote for light gun games sounds quality!).

Happy days.

toad king:
Yeah GX support would rock - screw the gui - GX would give it speed! 8)
Hopefully someone who knows it will help you.
I have got M.A.M.E. to run on multiple systems (including WII LINUX) but
am in no way competent enough to help with adding hardware gfx.
Thankfully though it seems many are. 8)
God bless the WII homebrew scene! 8)

I think the SDL Wii port already uses GX rendering for display:
http://code.google.com/p/sdl-wii/sou...SDL_wiivideo.c

To me , it seems to be the same (or similar) code used in "GX" emulators (i.e good old softdev's code), I'm not sure if you can get significant speedup for SDL-Mame on that side...

Would it make sense to use an older version (like say, 0.112) as a basis rather than the newest one? Mame gets resource hungrier with development and changes after all.

The problem with using SDL for the graphics is that it doesn't support textures, so MAME decodes them in software which uses a lot of CPU cycles. SDL 1.3 is supposed to have texture support, and MAME can be built to use it, but that hasn't been released yet or ported to the Wii. (Somebody could port a development build of SDL 1.3 to the Wii, but nobody seems that interested in it.)

I learned this the hard way, and backporting my patches to an earlier version might be difficult because a lot of the SDL code in MAME changed over time. I'm planning on sticking with 0.135 from now on unless some major bug in MAME appears, and hopefully GX support will fix most of the speed problems.

Great i think from my little research of GX Graphics isn't so scary.
Good Try.

I hope have time to try your new release...
