On widescreen TVs, you cannot see the exit button due to improper display settings used by the coder. Surprise! Yet another app that fails to respect 16:9 televisions. In case anyone is wondering, it is in the bottom left corner. You need to mouseover that area and press fire.

Hi

we've tested the game on 16:9 and 4:3 PAL TV's and there have been no issues. The problem may be related to NTSC.

We will be doing another release after the competition is over and hopefully get that fixed.

Cheers

I have to say that this one is definitley the best entry...

the gameplay is smooth and the overall design looks brilliant.

cant wait to play it with a friend.
just continue adding levels and some more gamemods and this game
will be perfect.

Interesting. Looks exactly the same as when it is widescreen related trouble.

Not to burst the bubble, but maybe since so many users are experiencing TV ratio issues maybe a dedicated thread should be started. I have the same issue with my video capture device.

Enough off topic talk. The game is great. Although, I think a little too sensitive on the control aspect. I'll probably get used to it after testing it out more. Good stuff!

Haha, agreed Brakken. This game looks amazing, like a WiiWare title.

the problem is also with PAL60 also, most TV "crop" the 480 lines of display because of vertical overscan (this is hidden by TV edges), that's why, generally, game designer set up a display "safe area", i.e limit the active part of display to the 448 centered line

PAL (50 Hz) display more lines than NTSC or PAL60 but still requires a safe area (approx. 528 lines): since you probably used the 528 line mode in libogc, the game can be seen fullscreen with such settings.

congratulation for that game, it is very impressive in all aspects: game design, presentation, music... everything look very polished and professional

6/10

This was the app I was most looking forward to in the competition. The game looks amazing, but there's hardly anything to play. Quick draw, and shoot 10 bottles modes aren't very fun for more than a couple playthroughs. The battle mode for the garden stage is by far the best.

Having said all this, I see nothing but potential for this app. If there was more than 2 levels and 3 modes, this would have easily been my favorite app. Instead I'm left feeling a little disappointed by the lack of content presented here.

I truly hope you make another release of Smashing! with a lot more content. I'll be the first to download it

Thanks for your comments Arikado. We were dissapointed not to get the rest of the content finished in time and I agree it would have been much better with more. Having said that, the quickdraw and battle garden modes work really well on 2 player. I think that is where the real gameplay is in the current release.

We will be releasing version 2 after the competition is over which will include some more levels and modes

On another note, in response to all the comments about problems with our game when it comes to overscan and NTSC I have made a couple of changes which should make it display properly for everyone (fingers crossed) now. I have mentioned this to brakken and he is OK with an updated release and says that the original version will still be the one taken into account when the winner of the competition is being decided.

We were just a bit gutted that it wasn't displaying properly for everyone and so asked to release a fix. Hopefully most people have voted now anyway so it shouldn't affect the competition.

The updated file is attached to this post. Please delete the existing folder before extracting this one.

Excellent work! My favourite in the competition Id say I eagerly await v2 and appreciate the screen fix as my PAL 42" running component lost the exit button!

8/10 and maybe the future look of Wii homebrew :P

I use a 4:3 TV and I cannot see the "back" button in menus. I can see a little part of it in the in-game home menu therefore. Oh, and could you make the shaking detection more sensitive? I must shake two times to get my bow charged.

Do you have version 1.1? The problem with some buttons being off screen should be fixed in that release. See further up this thread for a download link.

The reload seems bang on to me. A flick of the wrist vertically (like if you were hitting a drum) with the wiimote buttons facing upwards in your hand does the trick every time for me. But if other people are experiencing similar problems then we can look at tuning the sensitivity of it in the next release.

This is a superb game, really impressive and polished looking. Add a few more stages and it would make a great WiiWare title.

No problems on my old fashioned TV.

Great game. Very well put together; certainly for a first start.
Reminded me much of Link's Crossbow training w/o the camera auto zooming in and out, etc.
Music was great too. I give this homebrew an 8/10.

Few screen issues.

Hi aquaphazed

Regarding the screen issues you had with smashing, were you referring to the 1.0 release? We released 1.1 a while back that tried to fix most of the screen issues. You can find it above (post #16). If that doesn't solve your screen issues we would be interested to hear what kind of issues your having so we can try and get those fixed for the next release.

Thanks for the feedback

John
