You can "disagree" if you like but it doesn't magically transform my hardware to match yours.

Hmmm, so what is the problem really? I was expecting it to be automatically stretched

it IS stretched... but not completely for some people
the thing is, maximal horizontal resolution depends on each TV set, if you increase the video width, some people might be happy, some other won't
then, you have to choose if your game is designed for 4:3 or 16:9: if it is designed for 16:9 and you play it on 4:3 TV, aspect ratio would look wrong. You can also implement 2 modes but i's lot of additional work and re-design, remeber this is still non-professional work.
conclusion: you have to make some choice and it's really no big deal to have tiny borders

Well the thing is that I am trusting the resolution that the libogc sent me. I haven't designed the game for any special resolution. In fact I don't even know the resolution I am using for my tv. I just get a width and a height value and work with that
How do they do that in commercial games?

interesting website:

Over-Scanning
TVs tend to over-scan their screen area, which means the picture on the screen is a little larger than the display. How much the TV over-scans varies from TV to TV. To compensate, console manufactures (e.g. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo) require that the edges of the screen not contain any important information. That means things like a heads up display, dialog boxes and UI elements must remain within the confines of a safe region. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have different requirements, but none of them have restrictions on being too cautious. Microsoft requires that an Xbox title have a safe region that uses only the middle 85% of the screen (544x408) making it the most conservative. We have yet to find a TV that this safe region won't compensate for. (Note: The safe region is different for HDTV)
|
now, most homebrew set the video witdh to 640 pixels when the maximal WII/GC resolution is 720 pixels, which explain those black borders
to fit the screen completely (with something else than black), you will first have to bypass that (vmode->viWidth = 720, vmode->viXorigin = 0) but you will also need to take the resulting hardware stretching in account when rendering the active display and design your game accordingly (also note that the stretching is more important for 16:9 signals)
aspect ratio and oversacn are two different things, but they need to be properly thought when desiging a game

Thx, I'll try to include a new option to choose between 4:3 and 16:9
It won't be a problem for the game as it has been designed to fit in any resolution, even the menus

It's a really fun game. I give you huge props for pushing out something in 3D. I t also has a lot of content and is fairly challenging.

What a little corker Its as addictive as it ever was! Id like to see sound in a later release and maybe a button for run (but thats just me being fussy).
Worthy of note is the menu for next level should auto pop up when you do a level (I thought the game had crashed when I did level 1!!).
Kudos.
