Hi all, i've just bought a v64 but am having trouble getting it to work...i load the rom from cd untill it goes into stop mode, then i turn on the n64 and nothing happens the video signal just gets cut off. Turn off the n64 and the v64 stop screen re-appears. The N64 will pass through the v64 normally and i can add the surround sound to normal carts. I've tried two different emulation adaptors & a DS1 ram cart too, it seems the the unit isn't loading the rom to the n64 . Any ideas? anyone? $20 to anyone who fixes my problem....

Keep the $20 in your pocket!

First before anybody can help you, More info is needed, like:

1. What game are you trying to load ?
2. What game have you on top of the V64 ?
3. How much RAM is in your V64 ? (128 or 256)

Also not interested in the $20 but:

You need an original cart inserted into the emulation adapter, and inserted in to the N64 to make it boot.

There are two other things to look out for.

CIC chips. There are around five different cic chips in the original N64 carts - you need an original cart with the right cic chip for the game you're trying to play in the emulation adapter.

Save memory. N64 uses three different types of memory to save games. EEprom, Sram and Flash. Again you need an original cart with the right type of save memory inserted into the emulation adapter (this can get tricky if you're trying to match cic and memory type). Thankfully there is one way around the save issue and that's to get hold of a DX256 and a DS1 - these can be used in place of the emulation adapter (I think the ds1 might need a hardware mod, otherwise you still need to use the emulation adapter ?) and will cater for eeprom and sram saving respectivly.

Most of this is explained in detail here:

There are quite a few patches available at www.dextrose.com (http://www.dextrose.com) to fix various roms to work with different save methods or different cic's.

Hope that helps a bit - feel free to get back to me with any problems - I dug my v64 out of the attic a couple of weeks ago and my daughter has it up and running in her room at the moment.
